Ipoh cops nab two people for attempted murder of policeman


IPOH: Police here have arrested two people in connection with the attempted murder of a junior policeman in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the 33-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested on Monday (Feb 5).

"We've also seized the car that was used during the incident," ACP Yahaya said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 6).

A 34-year-old junior policeman suffered fractured ribs and shoulder during the incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor here on Sunday (Feb 4).

During a routine patrol on his motorcycle, the policeman saw a car that was parked by the side of the road.

While stopping to inspect the car, the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle and crashed into the policeman's motorcycle, causing the latter to fall.

The driver moved forward and reversed his car again, hitting the policeman a second time before speeding away.

ACP Yahaya said the man tested positive for drugs and has 17 cases in his criminal record for various crimes, including those involving drugs.

"The woman has two cases in her criminal record. An order will be obtained at the Magistrate Court for their remand on Tuesday (Feb 6)," he said, adding that the incident will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
