Housing Ministry resolved over 11,000 TPPS disputes last year

PETALING JAYA: More than 1,000 cases from the Housing and Strata Management Tribunal (TPPS) have been resolved by the Housing and Local Government Ministry last year, says Nga Kor Ming.

The minister said a total of 11,361 cases from TPPS were resolved, addressing housing and strata management dispute issues.

Out of this number, 1,331 cases involved homebuyer claims, while 10,030 cases were related to strata management claims.

“The total number of successfully resolved cases is 11,361 or 99.87% in the year 2023. This is the highest number in history,” he said yesterday.

He added that 2023 recorded the highest number of case registrations with 11,263 cases compared to 9,617 cases in the previous year.

The tribunal, which is divided into two categories – Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims and Strata Management Tribunal – was established as an alternative platform to resolve housing disputes between homebuyers and developers as well as matters related to strata management at minimal cost.

It also helps aggrieved parties seek redress for unpaid maintenance fees besides other matters that crop up among tenants, owners and management bodies.

Nga said the eTPS system, launched on Sept 12, had recorded 1,500 cases filed by the public through the online system to date.

“The online system has made filing of claims and payment easier for the public.

“It is easier and saves time and cost because the filing of claims and payment can be done online without having to come to the TPPS counter,” the Housing and Local Government Minister said.

Nga also said that since last year, the ministry had initiated engagement sessions with the Local Authority Commissioner of Building to raise awareness among the public about the broader functions of TPPS.
