Poultry farmers will be affected by switch to closed house system, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Poultry farmers will be affected by the switch from the current open cage system to the closed house system, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"Poultry farmers from small and medium sized farms will be seriously affected by the switch and discourage younger generations to join poultry farming. This would be detrimental to the future of the poultry industry," said the MCA president in a Facebook post on Friday (Jan 19).

Dr Wee met with poultry farmers concerning the switch together with MCA vice-president and Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng.

"The government needs a comprehensive plan to provide assistance to farmers to ensure our food chain is not affected. Jeck Seng and I will raise this matter with the relevant authorities, including in Parliament, so that the government can address this issue," he added.
