Farmiera loses three chicken houses in fire incident


KUALA LUMPUR: Farmiera Bhd announced a fire incident at its broiler farm in Kampung Air Hitam in Linggi, Negeri Sembilan, over the weekend.

In a stock exchange filing, the poultry producer said three chicken houses with a combined capacity of about 100,000 broilers per cycle were lost in the fire that broke out on Feb 14.

However, the incident is not expected to materially impact the operations of the group.

No broilers were lost as there had been no intake of broilers at the time of the incident. There were also no injuries or casualties from the incident.

According to Farmieria, it is in the process of ascertaining the actual quantum of losses arising from the incident.

"Farmiera has adequate fire and stock insurance coverage in place for Farm Linggi and is initiating the relevant insurance claims," it added.

The management of the group will mitigate the production disruption arising from the incident by engaging additional contract farmers. This is expected to allow the group to recoup production volume and meet its existing market commitments.
