Boy in hot water for scamming own mum

ALOR GAJAH: A Form Three male student who scammed his 58-year-old mother of RM25,000 is now in hot water.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the 15-year-old student would be charged at a Magistrate’s Court here today together with two other suspects.

He said the teenager had plotted the scam together with his two friends, aged 17 and 29.

The victim was told on Nov 27 last year that her only son, a Form 3 student, had been detained by the Seremban police for a criminal offence, he said.

“They misled the woman, who is a clinic assistant, into coughing up the money in order to release her son,” he said yesterday.

Supt Arshad said the mother paid the money two days later, on Nov 29 to the older suspect, who had impersonated a policeman.

“The other teen suspect is a schoolmate of the victim’s son.”

Supt Arshad said the mother felt compelled to pay the money to the 29-year-old at a location in Masjid Tanah here as she wanted to ensure the release of her own son.

Eventually, the son returned home on Nov 30 after the amount was handed over to the suspect.

According to Supt Arshad, the woman later contacted the Seremban police and learnt that her son had not been arrested. He stated that the mother then filed a police report here against the 29-year-old suspect.

Supt Arshad said the three suspects are expected to be charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
