No HSA medical officers transferred out over urine-tampering issue, says Health Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: No Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) medical officers have been transferred out following the urine-tampering controversy in Johor.

"Individuals implicated in the urine-tampering case are still under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)," the Health Ministry said in reply to The Star on Saturday (Jan 13).

The Health Ministry was referring to an article on Wednesday (Jan 10) about the urine-tampering controversy in the state, where 10 pathologists had allegedly been transferred out.

In the article, Johor health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said that in addition to the reshuffling of pathologists, the state has also reinforced all standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the handling of urine samples.

On this, the Ministry said that the handling of urine sample testing falls under the responsibilities of medical laboratory technicians and not pathologists.

It also urged all parties not to speculate on the case and added that HSA has always cooperated with the MACC during the investigation process.

"The Health Ministry would like to inform that all of its facilities – including HSA – is committed to ensuring the best service with full integrity to all segments of society,” it added.
