Anwar remains calm amid Sanusi’s SD claim

SEPANG: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains calm amid claims by Perikatan Nasional of having enough support to overthrow his government.

When asked about claims by Perikatan election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor that the coalition has “the numbers”, the Prime Minister said: “It’s ok. He can say (and make the claim).

“I just want to work. I don’t have to comment. I will answer when there are major issues,” he said on Monday (Jan 8).

Muhammad Sanusi, who is also Kedah Mentri Besar, was reported to have said that Perikatan has already obtained sufficient numbers of statutory declarations (SD) to overthrow the government.

However, he did not provide details, including the number of SDs obtained.

“It is enough (the number of SDs). Just wait for it,” he said.

Earlier, Perikatan had said that a statement claiming that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had agreed to grant an audience to 118 MPs was fake.

The office of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that the statement that had gone viral, allegedly issued by the Perikatan secretary-general, is not real.

Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin also claimed that the Opposition had successfully garnered 123 SDs from MPs who had allegedly lost confidence in the Prime Minister.

However, the claim was debunked by Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Adam,

Last week, Anwar, when asked about the purported “Dubai Move” to topple the government, said that focusing on work was more crucial than fretting over whatever moves are being hatched out there.

On Dec 30, Community Communications Department deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that there was a plot to topple Anwar’s government organised by Perikatan leaders and government backbenchers who are vacationing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
