Worker crushed to death by falling furniture in Sandakan


KOTA KINABALU: A worker transferring furniture from an overturned lorry was killed when some of the furniture fell on him.

Sandakan Fire Station chief Mohd Nidzam Sainku said according to witnesses the worker in his 20s identified as Nawawi was removing furniture from the overturned lorry when one of it fell on him at Batu 17, Labuk road in Sandakan on Sunday (Jan 7).

He said they received a distress call at 10.02am but on arrival members of the public had already removed the furniture that had fallen on him.

The firemen on the scene were told by witnesses that the victim was hit by furniture while he was transferring the goods.

Firemen handed over the body to the police for further action.

Mohd Nidzam said the accident was believed to have occurred on Saturday and the owner had sent workers to remove the furniture from the overturned truck.

It is understood that the driver and his attendant were not hurt in the accident.

Sandakan police, who were investigating the case, had not immediately issued a statement on the incident.
