Floods: Number of evacuees drops to 338 in Johor


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor showed a slight drop from 440 people at 8pm on Jan 6 to 338 people at 8am on Sunday (Jan 7) morning.

According to the state disaster management committee, the 338 victims are from 92 families who are still being sheltered at six temporary relief centres (PPS) in the state.

“The PPS are located in three districts, namely Mersing, Kluang, and Kota Tinggi.

“The highest number of victims is in Mersing with 170 victims, followed by Kluang and Kota Tinggi with 84 victims each,” it said in a statement here.

The majority of the victims are from Kampung Air Papan, Mersing, with 123 evacuees being placed at SK Air Papan.

“So far, only one road has been inundated and is only open to heavy vehicles at Jalan Mawai Lama in Kota Tinggi,” it added.
