RM50mil aid to be given to Kelantan flood victims

PASIR MAS: An allocation of RM50mil will be channelled to victims in Kelantan who have been affected by the three waves of flooding since November, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said each affected family would receive RM1,000 while additional assistance would be made based on an assessment of the losses suffered by the flood victims.

“For victims who are housed at temporary relief centres and other areas, we have approved an initial allocation of RM50mil through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to be channelled directly to those affected.

“While each family will get RM1,000, some have asked for additional assistance because previously there was an addition after damage and losses were identified and verified by officers put in charge.

“We will more or less (give additional assistance), because I was told by the Kelantan Mentri Besar that there are families who have been hit by floods for the third time and suffered heavy losses.

“For them, Insya-Allah, we will help,” he told a press conference after meeting flood victims at the SMK Agama (A) Lati relief centre in Kampung Banggol Manok yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present at the press conference were Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Nadma director-general Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, and the Drainage and Irrigation Department director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Anuar Othman.
