KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,066 people have been detained for being involved in scam call centres in the city, says Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.
The Kuala Lumpur police chief said police also opened 87 investigation papers on call centres between January and last month.
“The KL Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) conducted 1,609 cybercrime raids and 1,222 other raids since January.
“We are aware of the threat of scams and we are going all out to curb it,” he told reporters after attending the KL police monthly assembly here yesterday.
On the war on drugs, Comm Allaudeen said the KL Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) seized drugs worth RM125.4mil from January to November.
“It is an increase compared with the RM122.8mil worth of drugs seized in the same period last year. The department also detained 13,215 individuals for drug-related offences during this period compared with 12,187 last year,” he said.
The KL NCID also reached a 97.5% charging rate and 97.9% investigation paper completion rate, he added.
In terms of upholding integrity in the police force, Comm Allaudeen said 31 officers and personnel had been fired for various offences as at November.
“Last year, 40 officers and personnel were fired during the same period,” he said.
Meanwhile, Comm Allaudeen said CCTVs in the city had helped the police in their crime-busting efforts.
He added that the CCTVs indirectly contributed to the 10% drop in the crime index compared with the same period last year.
“KL CID has reached almost 70% prosecution rate so far this year, surpassing its 45% (target).
“The department also managed to complete 91.52% of its investigation papers during the same period,” he said.
He said the fear of crime in KL was also on the decline.
Since taking over as KL’s top cop in August, Comm Allaudeen said he was very happy with the performance of his officers and personnel.
“Every department has performed exceptionally well. I hope we can improve further next year,” he added.
