MMEA detains seven in op


LABUAN: A Malaysian and six foreigners have been detained for fish-bombing activities some 54km northwest of Tanjung Kubong waters here.

The arrests were made by the Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), in collaboration with the Fisheries Department last Saturday.

MMEA Labuan director Captain Izwanhadi Idros said the joint operation, conducted around noon, targeted vessels without a valid licence.

“Upon inspection, it was discovered that the boat, accompanied by a smaller boat, had no valid licence.

“Further investigation led to the discovery of 300kg of various fish species and an additional 300kg of dried fisheries products on board,” he told reporters yesterday,

Bernama reported. He said the 40-year-old Malaysian skipper and the foreigners, aged between 25 and 61, were detained for questioning
