Sizzling lava erupting out of a snow-covered Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, as seen from Monte San Leo, Sicily, Italy.

Volcano eruptions can be both a spectacular and frightening sight, as shown by recent examples in Italy and Indonesia.
