Three kids drown in Kudat construction pool

KOTA KINABALU: Three children drowned after bathing in a pond at a construction site in Sabah's northern Kudat district Thursday (Dec 7).

The boys were identified as Wan Hermi, 11 and Mohd Syahwan, 7, while the girl was identified as Nurul Isah, 11.

It is understood that the three children involved were swimming in a pool dug for construction purposes at Kampung Perpaduan Ria 2.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Services station chief Ishak Jabas said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 5.36pm.

He said a team of firemen together with the Emergency Services Support Unit (EMRS) were rushed to the scene.

The three victims had already been taken out of the pool by passers-by when the team arrived.

"The three victims were unconscious and then given respiratory assistance (CPR) by medical officers and the EMRS team," he said.

According to him, all the victims were then rushed to Kudat Hospital.

"Based on the information received from the hospital medical officers, it was confirmed that the three children passed away," he said.
