Heavy rain causes flash floods in three villages in Baling

ALOR SETAR: Prolonged heavy rain for several hours has caused flash floods in three villages in Baling here on Tuesday (Dec 5).

Baling district Civil Defence Force officer Lt (PA) Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said the villages that were affected were Kampung Iboi, Kampung Sadek and Kampung Badang.

"The continuous heavy rain for several hours caused the water of Sungai Baling to overflow into the houses located near the riverbank," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 5).

He said the survey conducted by APM officers at the scene found that flash floods occurred in several villages.

He said the river was flooded when heavy rainfall in the upstream area caused the river channel unable to accommodate the substantial amount of rainwater.

He however said no temporary relief centre has been opened so far.

"Civil Defence Force personnel have been deployed there to monitor the situation from time to time," he said.

He said although the flood has subsided, it is still raining in Baling.
