CHUKAI: Felda settlers here are hoping that the Kemaman parliamentary by-election will bring attention to the broken down common facilities in the six settlements which they claimed have been left to rot over the past few years.
Felda Neram Satu head Abd Aziz Ibrahim claimed that since PAS returned to power in Terengganu in 2018, facilities such as the community hall provided by the former Barisan Nasional administration have been abandoned and not maintained by the district authorities.
“The present ruling party is unable to fulfil many of its duties and responsibilities, especially in my area, with the hall and many facilities left abandoned. We have taken the initiative to clean up them up,” Abd Aziz told Bernama.
“This never happened before. The hall (and) mosques were taken care of and full of activities.”
Kemaman district, which is in the southern part of Terengganu bordering Pahang, has six Felda settlements with a total of almost 20,000 eligible voters.
When met, Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek hoped that settlers would choose an MP who is able to give them his full attention.
“Not everything can be resolved by Felda, but a good elected representative will find ways to do just that,” he said.
