SEPANG: Twenty brawling football fans were nabbed before Saturday’s match between Selangor and Perak, says state police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan
He said two suspicious black buses were spotted at the vicinity of the MBPJ stadium during the Malaysian Super League match between Selangor and Perak.
“The police on duty immediately noticed the buses and shortly after, five Selangor supporters were attacked by a group of men, that I can say was about 100 people.
“One suffered a broken hand. The group also damaged four cars at random, for no apparent reason.
“This to me seems as if it was planned beforehand and they came with ill intentions.
“Their actions were quickly spotted by the police and we stopped both buses before bringing them to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters,” he told reporters after a community policing motorcycle ride to the Sepang police headquarters yesterday.
A total of 20 men, aged 16 to 36, were arrested. One of the suspects was wanted by police in connection with a murder case in Kajang.
Three more were previously involved in other criminal and drug related offences.
“Twelve suspects also tested positive for drugs. All have been remanded until Nov 29.
“The police are also on the hunt for two more suspects. We are also investigating who is the leader of the group which planned to create unrest,” he said.
Comm Hussein reiterated the arrests were made before the match started.
“If the police did not take swift action, I believe the situation would have been worse with more vehicles damaged.
On yesterday’s event, he said, members of the public and non government organisations (NGOs) along with police officers took part in the motorcycle ride to the police headquarters.
