Grassroots want Muhyiddin to stay on as president, says a shocked Peja


SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement that he would not defend his post at next year’s party polls came as a shock for members at Bersatu’s sixth annual general meeting on Friday (Nov 24), says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The Bersatu vice-president said he was unhappy with the announcement and wants to give the grassroots a chance to respond to it as well.

“I didn’t want to look at him, I am very upset because I thought we started this party together and then suddenly the announcement came that he won’t put himself out there.

“I’m not going to run against Muhyiddin, I will protect him,” Ahmad Faizal, fondly known as Peja, said on Friday.

When asked again if he would ever take the chance to become Bersatu president, Peja said the grassroots still wanted Muhyiddin.

“Let’s not go there... We will get a spokesman to help voice out the concerns of the grassroots during the assembly,” he said.
