Individuals with multiple party memberships a worry for Sabah's GRS

KOTA KINABALU: Individuals with multiple party memberships are causing headaches for the seven-party Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.

Lumandan Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah chief Mazlan Joehari Manan said this could lead to misunderstanding between component parties that they are poaching each other's members.

He said those applying for membership in any party must be honest.

"They should not just apply for membership with another component party without declaring their membership with another component party," he said.

He said the issue could have been avoided if members are honest and transparent as they are the only ones who know their status.

Mazlan added no party had poached members from another and the fault was with those who joined multiple parties.

"Some simply join other parties, others don't even know about their membership," he said in Beaufort on Sunday (Nov 19).

Mazlan said "honesty and sincerity" of members is important because it would have an impact on GRS as a whole, especially if state elections are called.

Klias Gagasan Rakyat chief Datuk Isnin Aliasnih said measures were being taken to check the status of new party applicants.

"Those who were previously members of another political party, we will ensure they have a resignation letter," he said, adding that there was one person who was a member of six political parties.
