THE Pengkalan Kempas Hindu cemetery in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, has reached its capacity with no more space for new burials, Makkal Osai reported.

Pengkalan Kempas MIC branch chairman K. Karuppusamy said the cemetery, located along Jalan Linggi, has served the Hindu community in the district, especially Ladang Sengkang, for more than a hundred years.

“The community is facing difficulties in finding burial space for deceased family members. There is plenty of plantation land adjacent to the cemetery that can be converted into additional cemetery land,” he said.

The state government should consider allocating and gazetting one acre to the cemetery, he and other Indian leaders urged.

The cemetery is currently managed by the Ladang Sengkang Sri Maha Mariamman temple.

Linggi assemblyman and state exco member Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli advised the committee to write an official letter to the state government for additional land.
