Floods: Bomba rescues woman trapped in Rantau cowshed

SEREMBAN: The Fire and Rescue Department rescued a woman who was trapped in a cowshed due to floods in Kampung Air Kuning, Jalan Linggi in Rantau this evening.

Rantau Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Syazwan Saidy said his team received a distress call from the woman's son, R.Sehtu Raj who said his 58-year-old mother G. Shanti was trapped after flood waters rose.

"On arrival at the location, the firefighters found the woman standing on a chair in the shed while hugging a pole. The woman's son said it was his mother's routine to clean the shed every evening," he said in a statement here.

"There was heavy rain since 1.30pm (on Tuesday) causing the waters of the nearby river to rise. The woman managed to contact her son to get help. There were eight cows in the shed and all of them were rescued."

Mohd Syazwan said a collapsed bridge forced his eight-member team, assisted by five policemen, to use an alternative route to the shed with the help of residents.

The rescue operation ended at about 5.30pm. -Bernama
