GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will set up traps and camera traps in Meranto here following the fatal attack of a man by a tiger in the rubber plantation.

The mauling is the latest in a series of tiger attacks in Gua Musang.

Its director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said it was informed of the latest attack by the Gua Musang police headquarters at 8.30pm on Saturday.

He said during the 1pm incident on Saturday, a Myanmar national who was tapping rubber was mauled to death by the tiger at Ladang Persendirian, Meranto.

“The plantation is located about 50km from Gua Musang, and it will take up to two hours to reach there using 4WD vehicles,” he said yesterday, Bernama reported.

The distance between the location of the latest case and that of the last attack on Nov 10 at the Akar Prestige Plantation is estimated to be 10km.

In the latest incident, Ahka Soe Ya, 22, sustained injuries and bleeding at the back of his neck during the attack while rubber tapping with his wife.

It was reported that autopsy results on the victim, who was taken to the hospital by four other Myanmar nationals, indicated that the cause of death was severe head injuries due to a tiger attack.

On Friday, a tiger mauled to death an Indonesian national who was also a rubber tapper.

In early October, an Orang Asli man was found dead, with a leg missing in the Pos Pasik forest and with animal scratch marks on his head and body.

“Perhilitan advises plantation workers to avoid working alone and provoking wildlife,” said Mohamad Hafid.
