Bomba extinguishes half of landfill fire in Sugai Rengit

KOTA TINGGI: The Fire and Rescue Department has managed to extinguish half of the fire at a landfill in Sungai Rengit.

Sungai Rengit Fire and Rescue Department station chief, Baharudin Idris, said the department received information on the incident on Monday (Nov 6).

“We deployed six men to the location along with one fire truck, a rescue vehicle, and a pick-up truck to the location in Jalan Sungai Buloh.

“The fire has spread to 50% of the total four hectares of land,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 12).

Baharudin added that the firefighting works were handed over to the Pengerang Municipal Council (MPP) on Thursday (Nov 9).

“We are currently monitoring the situation,” he said, adding that the rain that fell in the area was not heavy enough to help extinguish the flame.

Meanwhile, MPP president Zihan Ismail said that the landfill belongs to the private sector, and the council has helped the Fire and Rescue Department extinguish the flames.

“We are finding ways to put out the flames,” she said.

The operation is still ongoing.
