Perhilitan investigating if man mauled to death by tiger near Gua Musang


GUA MUSANG: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will conduct an investigation following the discovery of body parts believed to be of an Indonesian man who is believed to have been attacked a tiger in a plantation in Kampung Meranto here.

Kelantan Perhilitan director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said its search and rescue (SAR) team would conduct the investigation at the location of the incident.

"Upon receiving information from the Gua Musang district police headquarters at 10am on Friday (Nov 10), Perhilitan members along with the SAR team left for the location of the incident.

"The plantation, which is located 55km from Gua Musang, and it takes one to two hours to reach there," he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 11), adding that the area is only accessible via four-wheel drive vehicles.

The remains of Lalu Sukarya Yahya, 42, were found in a rubber plantation and with signs of an animal attack.

Mohamad Hafid said there had been two fatalities and an injury among the Orang Asli community due to tiger attacks in the state.

He also urged the public to be cautious and not to provoke any wildlife should they encounter them. – Bernama
