Two charged for 9,820kg of cooking oil without licence

KUALA LUMPUR: Two traders pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Kubu Baru Sessions Court to having 9,820kg of wholesale cooking oil without a valid licence three months ago.

Ng Soo Hua, 45, and Lum Teck Fong, 46, entered the plea after the charges against them were read before Sessions judge Siti Fatimah Talib, according to a report by Bernama.

They were charged together with six individuals who were accused of having in their control the scheduled goods without a licence.

The two men were charged with committing the offence at an unnamed premises at the Sri Pagi Trading Centre, Sungai Choh here at 6pm on Aug 2, under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 which is punishable under Section 22(1) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The section provides for a maximum fine of RM1mil or jail of up to three years or both.

For second and subsequent offences, the sentence shall be a fine of not more than RM5mil or jail of up to five years or both, if convicted.

The deputy public prosecutors were Mohd Sophian Zakaria and Nurul’Ain Shafie while counsel Datuk Wan Azmir Wan Majid represented the two accused.

The court allowed bail of RM8,000 with one surety for each accused and fixed Dec 14 for mention.
