Two people rescued after car falls into ravine

KOTA KINABALU: Two people were injured after their car fell into a 15m-deep ravine in Ranau district.

The victims, a man and a woman were pinned in the vehicle following the accident along Jalan Nalapak Ranau at around 6.30pm, Friday (Oct 27).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said they received a call from the victim about the mishap at 6.54pm and sent a team to respond.

“He told us that he had lost control of the car and it skidded off the road into the ravine and that they were pinned in their seats,” he said in a statement.

“Our officials arrived and saw the vehicle below the ravine. Both victims were carefully brought out of the car,” he said.

Hamsa said both victims were given preliminary treatment before they were taken to the hospital.

Operations ceased at 8.20pm after all hazardous elements were eliminated, he said.
