Wanita MCA calls on govt to ensure effectiveness of subsidy initiative


KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA has called on the government to ensure the targeted subsidy initiative is implemented effectively.

This was among its seven resolutions passed during its 48th annual general meeting (AGM) held at Wisma MCA here.

Under the resolution which touched on the government, Wanita MCA called on the authorities to ensure effectiveness and practicality in its intention to execute a targeted subsidy framework.

“At the same time, the government should evaluate and acknowledge any potential impact on the welfare of the B40, M40 and T20 groups, and carefully consider the transition’s impact and challenges faced by all under the current economic conditions,” it said.

Six other resolutions passed by Wanita MCA were related to party affairs, economy, education, agriculture and food security, religion and national unity, and law and institutional reforms.

Under party affairs, it passed the motion for the wing to actively promote the recruitment of members among young adults, increase the rate of female participation in politics and create a culture of women professionals participating in politics.

Under economy, the Wanita AGM passed the resolution to call on the government to establish a “one-stop small and medium-sized enterprise consultation centre” for women to provide business and entrepreneur services.

Under education, it passed the motion to urge the Education Ministry to defend the rakyat’s right to a mother tongue education and treat all education streams fairly.

“The ministry should also clarify the anomaly on the current shortage of teachers at Chinese primary schools.

“The government, community, police, schools, families and other units to work together to put a stop to bullying in schools.”

Under law and institutional reforms, the resolution called for the proposed Senior Citizens’ Bill to be published.

“Wanita MCA is concerned over the enactment of the Bill and calls on the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to publish the Bill so that all ethnic communities, professional groups and people who have a wide knowledge, experience and understanding of senior citizens’ issues can review and provide feedback.”

Of the total of 1,744 Wanita MCA delegates, 940 or 53.9% of them attended the meeting at Wisma MCA here.

For MCA Youth, five resolutions were passed at its 50th AGM. They were party affairs, politics, government, economy and education.

Under party affairs, the wing passed the motion that supported the new leadership line-up in an effort to win the trust of more youths and support for MCA.

On economy, it passed the resolution urging the government to re-implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 4% rate.

“The government should implement strategies to tackle the weakening ringgit and lessen the people’s burden who are grappling with high cost of living.

“The government should review the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme to stimulate the country’s economy.”

On education, the youth wing passed the resolution calling on the government to enhance the secondary school syllabus about democracy and general election following the implementation of Undi18.

Out of the total of 1,066 MCA Youth delegates, 390 were present at the meeting.
