Queen graces closing of OB-PS Malaysia Conference

KUALA LUMPUR: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah graced the closing ceremony of the Olave Baden-Powell Society (OB-PS) Malaysia Conference 2023 here.

Tunku Azizah is the Royal Benefactor and organising chairman of the conference, as well as the patron of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia.

In her royal address, Her Majesty expressed her utmost appreciation for the hard work shown by the deputy organising chairman Datuk Seri Anne Eu in handling the conference successfully.

Her Majesty also thanked the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) for all the important skills, discipline and sense of responsibility shared throughout the years.

“Thank you very much, WAGGGS, for the years that I have been with the Girl Guides. I always tell people that what I am today is because of Girl Guides.

“Thank you for the discipline, the grooming, the teaching about the leadership of tomorrow, and for enabling us to voice out our girls’ aspirations,” Her Majesty said, adding that she was also looking forward to attending the OB-PS’ 40th Jubilee in Copenhagen, Denmark, slated for August next year.

The OB-PS supports the Mission of the WAGGGS by investing in the future leadership of young women, who will lead their families, communities, countries and the world.

The OB-PS conference is held annually to gather its members of common interests to provide financial support to WAGGGS and ensure a steady stream of income that funds its work, projects, programmes and services.

This year’s conference, which was held for the first time in Malaysia since 1998, aims to celebrate and support the WAGGGS and discuss the growth and development of young women, as well as empower them to become future leaders of the world.

The four-day conference gathered more than 360 participants from 17 countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Nigeria, South Korea and Japan. – Bernama
