Mitra begins distribution of 6,000 refurbished laptops to Tamil schools

KAJANG: The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) will distribute 6,000 refurbished laptops to 525 Tamil primary schools nationwide for education digitalisation.

The laptops are part of Mitra's Laptop Assistance SJKT Program 2023. It was launched by Mitra Special Vehicle Committee chairman Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan at SJK(T) Kajang on Tuesday (Oct 10).

Ramanan said the laptops would be used to introduce information and communication technology (ICT) to primary students.

"Every student and teacher needs laptops as they face the challenges in this new digital era.

"This is also in line with the government's goal of developing youth towards becoming more than just savvy tech consumers but potential industry leaders in the future," he said in his speech today.

He added that the laptops would help students study and perform in their academics better.

"Students will also be more eager to study on their own using the laptops, thus developing a culture of self-learning and improvement within the students," he said.

SJK(T) Kajang received 75 refurbished laptops on Tuesday (Oct 10).

Ramanan said the remaining laptops would be distributed to the other 524 Tamil primary schools over the next three months.

"The number of laptops distributed to each school will be determined by several factors, such as the number of students," he added.
