KOTA KINABALU: Some 95 villagers from Kampung Suasa in Beaufort were relocated due to flooding after heavy rains on Friday (Sept 22).

The Fire and Rescue Department initially received a report at 4pm and an integrated rescue mission involving the Civil Defence Department, police, Rela and other agencies was then initiated.

“The report stated that water levels had risen at the village and the various agencies began evacuating the 95 flood victims to a temporary relocation centre at Selagon hall,” said the Department spokesman, adding that the relocation was completed at 6.30pm and the situation was being monitored.

Meanwhile, in a separate case at a housing area in Penampang, firefighters assisted in opening a locked door at a house to retrieve the body of an elderly woman.

After receiving the call at 6.49pm, the team pried open the door using special tools and found the body of the 82-year-old woman, who was declared dead on location by the medical officer present.

Her remains had been handed over to the police for further action.
