Cops nab three for fighting during religious event at Bukit Mertajam


BUKIT MERTAJAM: Three men have been detained by police in connection with a fight in front of a Hindu temple in Alma here on Sunday (Sept 17).

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng Shan said police detected two video clips of the fight uploaded by X user "nanmanjoi8715" on Monday (Sept 18) morning.

"The video clips showed a group of men fighting in front of a temple... in Central Seberang Prai district.

"The videos, 27 and 14 seconds long, have since garnered 37 likes, three comments and 15 reposts," he said in a statement on Monday.

ACP Tan said an investigation found that the incident happened at 12.05am at the temple during a religious event.

Policemen on duty at the scene detained the three men in the temple's compound, he added.

He said the suspects, aged 21 to 25, had been remanded until Wednesday (Sept 20) to assist in the investigation.

Police were still trying to determine the cause of the incident and the case was being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray, he added.
