Kuala Terengganu MP says Hulu Langat MP ‘insulted’ him

KUALA Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim has cried foul over remarks made against him over the annulment of the 15th General Election (GE15) result for his seat.

He said Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) had insulted him during the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review debate on Wednesday, adding that a videoclip of the disparaging remarks had gone viral.

Mohd Sany had claimed the Election Court had nullified the GE15 results for the Kuala Terengganu seat after finding an element of corruption and money politics, and that Perikatan had nominated the same candidate for the resulting by-election.

Ahmad Amzad said Mohd Sany’s remarks did not reflect the court’s judgement, which he says had not found him guilty of corruption.

“This is an insult to the court’s judgement and to me as an elected representative for Kuala Terengganu,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He said the matter was related to grants for a government programme, and asked Mohd Sany to retract his statement.

On June 27, the Terengganu Election Court annulled the victory of Ahmad Amzad, who initially won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in November 2022.

Judge Mohd Firus Jaffril said the petitioner succeeded in proving that corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters in the constituency.
