KUALA LUMPUR: Commuters using the Kelana Jaya LRT line are in for a colourful treat in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
According to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, the exterior of the carriages will depict illustrations of Malaysian life.
The train carriages will feature the theme “Cerita Malaysiaku”, he said, adding that the Kelana Jaya line was chosen as it has the highest volume of commuters, averaging up to 250,000 people daily.
“The Cerita Malaysiaku initiative is to show our appreciation to the country as well as to share facts and information about Malaysia so that it will stay in our minds.
“I hope more trains will be coloured with such designs in the future,” he told reporters when launching the Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd’s Cerita Malaysiaku special coach programme at the KLCC station here yesterday.
Among others, the special coach will carry stories about Malaysian traditional food, proverbs, games and celebrations. At the same time, it is also coloured with facts about the Rukun Negara, the Malaysian Anthem and the country’s most famous flowers – the hibiscus and rafflesia.
Commuters who take the special coach will also be entertained with popular songs, aside from photos of iconic places in Malaysia such as Mount Kinabalu, A’Famosa and the Penang Bridge.
The programme is an initiative by Rapid Rail, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia, which is Klang Valley’s main rail operator.
Fahmi said the special coach started taking passengers from the Universiti Station to KLCC yesterday, adding that he hopes other private firms would collaborate with Prasarana for similar initiatives.
“I welcome the cooperation of the private sector because we need this kind of synergy to fuel the love for the country,” he added.
