Cast your ballots and enjoy these goodies

JOHOR BARU: Businesses are offering attractive deals to encourage more people to come out and vote in the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections.Ground Floor Kopi owner Low Jing Tong said voters just need to show their inked finger at the cafe to enjoy a free coffee throughout polling day today.

“We want to get people to exercise their responsibility as citizens,” said the 28-year-old barista.

Low said her cafe is located in Taman Mutiara Mas, which is under the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary constituency, located next to the Pulai constituency.

“I am sure there are many residents staying here who are Pulai voters so this offer is like a reward for them after they cast their ballots,” she said.

The one-day free coffee promotion runs from 11am until 10pm.

Low, who is a Kluang native, has been keeping up with news about the by-elections even though she is not voting this time round.

“I majored in television broadcasting in university so I am always in tune with the news.

“I recently read there are eligible voters who are still unaware there is a by-election going on. I hope they realise the power of their vote,” she said.

A noodle house in Taman Sutera Utama is offering a 10% discount on the total bill for voters who show their inked finger on polling day.

A worker at the outlet, located in Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3, said the promotion is to encourage voters to participate in the by-elections.

“After exercising their duty as a citizen, they can head to our restaurant and enjoy discounted food and beverages from 11.30am until 9.30pm,” she added.

Car rental company owner Che Muhamad Khairul Che Muhamad is running a week-long promotion on rented vehicles for voters in Pulai and Simpang Jeram.

“The price of our cars range from RM120 to RM170 per day and we are offering a RM20 discount per day for voters.

“They just need to show us that they are indeed registered voters to enjoy the discount.

“So far, we have received bookings for 17 out of the 20 vehicles in our fleet.

“More than half are from voters,” he said.

Che Muhamad Khairul said this is the second time he is running such a promotion, with the first during the Johor state election in March last year.

“This is our way of encouraging voters to head out and vote,” he added.
