A MAN who had a drinking problem was beaten to death by his own mother after he had consistently harassed his family for money.

Malaysia Nanban reported that the man, who worked as a painter in the Tirunelveli city of Tamil Nadu, was known in his neighbourhood for being a drunkard.

A day before his death, he was berated by his mother and sister after he demanded for money to continue drinking.

After they refused, he went to bed but the next morning he again asked them for money.

The mother and sister reportedly beat him until he fell unconscious.

When he did not regain consciousness, his family claimed he had died from a seizure and made funeral arrangements.

Neighbours reported his death when they got suspicious.

An investigation later found he had been strangled to death.

The mother and sister later admitted they were fed up with his constant drinking and harassment.
