No talks yet on govt post, says Reezal

KEPALA BATAS: Newly-elected Bertam assemblyman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (pic) says he will leave it to the Umno leadership to decide on his role in the formation of the Penang state government.

He said he has not held any discussion with anyone on the matter.

“Not yet, not with any leaders in the state.

“I have spoken to several party leaders, but that’s all, we did not go any deeper into anything,” he said, according to Bernama.

In the just-concluded Penang election, Reezal Merican wrested the Bertam seat, winning with a 2,321-vote majority against incumbent Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq of Perikatan Nasional.

The straight fight saw him securing 10,453 while Khaliq Mehtab clinched 8,132 votes.

The Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional pact won with a two-thirds majority in Penang, securing 29 of 40 seats contested.

DAP won all 19 seats it contested while PKR took seven, Amanah (one) and Barisan (two).

Reezal Merican also said he was humbled by his victory and thanked to those who voted for him.

“It is my honour and privilege to serve the people of Bertam, whom I love, and continue the legacy of (former prime minister) Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,” he said.
