PETALING JAYA: Petitions challenging the results of several seats in Selangor are being considered, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

"I was made to understand that there are a few matters which could be considered for petitions or follow-up action. Our legal team will look into it and this includes the issue of ballots that were not returned in Sungai Kandis," he told a press conference at a hotel early Sunday (Aug 13).

He was responding to the loss of Sungai Kandis by incumbent Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni from PKR to Perikatan Nasional's Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad from Bersatu by a slim majority of 167 votes.

Prior to the official announcement of the results by the Election Commission, several Pakatan supporters protested the alleged discrepancy in the number of unreturned votes.

Amirudin, who is Selangor Pakatan chief, said the legal team would also be looking into the results of seats won by Perikatan by slim majorities.

Among them are Dengkil (407), Gombak Setia (58) and Taman Medan (30).

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the battle between the unity coalition and Perikatan in Selangor was not as tight as expected although there were some challenges.

"Although it was said that we would face a very stiff challenge, the results showed otherwise and we are only four seats short of a two-thirds majority," he said.

The unity coalition won 34 seats while Perikatan secured 22 seats in the polls.
