State polls: S'gor PAS commissioner Dr Ahmad Yunus wins in Sijangkang


KUALA LANGAT: Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi has won the N51 Sijangkang state seat in Selangor.

Returning officer Muhammad Heeza Hassan said Dr Ahmad Yunus garnered 30,422 votes, giving him a majority of 11,308 votes over his opponent Umno's Al-Hafizi Abu Bakar from Barisan Nasional, who received 19,114 votes, in the straight fight.

Cheers erupted from supporters who were watching the screen closely as the numbers were screened in the Kuala Langat Industrial Training Institute Hall.

This will be his fourth term serving as assemblyman.

According to the Election Commission, Sijangkang has 62,907 registered voters with a turnout of 79.31% on polling day, equivalent to 49,536 voters.

Dr Ahmad Yunus said he was deeply humbled by the hope and trust voters had placed in him and added he will continue to serve the people to the best of his ability.
