State polls: Increase efforts to get support of voters, Pakatan, BN told

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Both Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional machineries have been urged to work hard to get support from the people with polling less than two days away.

Umno supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said he is not certain if there is an increase in support from voters, especially the Malays, in the six state elections.

“Both Barisan and Pakatan candidates must double their efforts in giving a much clearer explanation to the voters on the importance of cooperation between the two coalitions for the sake of Malaysia's political stability.

“I have already gone to the ground campaigning in 26 state seats and what I can see is that there is cooperation between Barisan and Pakatan machineries where the collaboration between both sides is very important.

“When meeting Malay voters for example, I think we need to continue to enlighten them about this cooperation between Pakatan and Barisan; it is not only because of the decree made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but also for the sake of political and economic stability,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul, who is also the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, said this after launching the GDS NTP data centre campus at Nusajaya Technology Park here on Thursday (Aug 10).

He said due to political stability in the country, in the first quarter of this year, Malaysia’s economic growth was quite strong with an increase of 5.6% while investment increased by 60%.

Tengku Zafrul also said that if clear and continuous explanations were made, it would be able to attract public support for the unity government, including the Malay community.

"If that can be implemented, we will definitely be able to achieve political stability in the country at least for the next five years.

"However, for now, I do not know whether there is an increase in support of the Malay community because there is no clear data on the matter, and we need to continue to work hard to attract their attention," he added.
