State polls: Empowering women among the agendas in PH-BN manifesto for Selangor

SHAH ALAM: Empowering women is one of the agendas in the manifesto by the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional partnership in Selangor.

Selangor PKR chairman Datuk Amirudin Shari said the alliance pledged that mothers would receive RM1,000 annually through the Wanita Kita Selangor Initiative.

After completing his presentation of the pledges dubbed Tawaran Kita Selangor: 5 Tekad untuk 5 Tahun (Our Offer Selangor: 5 Determinations for 5 Years), Amirudin said empowering women, especially mothers, was important for the state.

"We do not want women to be prevented from earning a living for their families as well as have a source of income eventhough they have to sometimes work from home because they have to see to their children," said Amirudin.

He added the annual RM1,000 that will be provided, will enable them to work more freely.

According to Amirudin, with the financial aid, mothers will also feel more confident of their children's safety as they could be sent to childcare centers or be taken care by paid help when they (the mothers) have to be away.

"And women can then be contributors to the economy," said Amirudin adding that empowering women was one of the challenges that the both Pakatan and Barisan must handle in tandem.

Another initiative under the pledge was registering and training child caregivers and providing childcare facilities at state government offices and local councils.

Incentives will also be offered to private sector workplaces to set up childcare facilities.
