State polls: Media's role critical, says Johor exco man

JOHOR BARU: The role of the media is critical in the upcoming six state elections, says a Johor exco member.

As such, the professionalism of media practitioners will be important in giving the public an accurate picture of events, said state youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

"I believe that the media are professional and will always adhere to a code of ethics ... that reports are balanced, not exaggerated, nor based on unverified sources," he said at the Johor Media Club's annual general assembly here on Tuesday (July 25) night.

Mohd Hairi also thanked the media for keeping the public well informed of the Johor government's many initiatives.

He was representing Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the media club's patron.
