Salahuddin unconscious but stable after surgery


ALOR SETAR: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub (pic) has been placed under post-surgery supervision after undergoing a four-hour surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

Salahuddin, who is warded at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah here, is currently unconscious due to intubations, but doctors treating him said the politician is in stable condition.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Salahuddin’s progress is being monitored by two specialist doctors assigned to treat him.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Salahuddin at the hospital yesterday, Saifuddin said he and several state Pakatan Harapan leaders, including Datuk Mahfuz Omar, were briefed by doctors on the politician’s condition.

“According to the doctors, his vital signs such as blood pressure, oxygen level and heart rate are positive and under control,” he added.

Also accompanying Saifuddin during the visit was Kedah state police chief Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh.

The PKR secretary-general said he had also met Salahuddin’s wife and children at the hospital.

“I have informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim about Salahuddin’s condition and have passed the Prime Minister’s regards to his family,” he said.

“Salahuddin’s family should be given the opportunity and space to deal with the current situation.”

He urged everyone to continue praying for his full recovery.

The Amanah deputy president was rushed to the hospital for treatment at 10.15pm on Friday after experiencing nausea and vomiting.

In a Twitter post, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof conveyed his best wishes to Salahuddin and for his swift recovery.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, in a Facebook post, said he and his staff also prayed for Salahuddin’s recovery.

Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said in a Facebook post that on behalf of Amanah’s big family, he prayed and wished for Salahuddin’s quick recovery.
