TM contractors among six nabbed for cable theft

KUALA LUMPUR: Six suspected cable thieves, including Telekom Malaysia (TM) contractors, have been arrested after they were spotted loading a lorry with stolen cables.

In a statement on Wednesday (July 19), Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said a 31-year-old complainant called the authorities after spotting several people pulling out copper wires along Jalan AU4 in Ampang.

Thirteen minutes after the call was made at around midnight, a police team arrived at the scene and arrested the suspects.

"Three were locals and three others were foreigners, all aged between 18 and 32," ACP Mohd Azam said, adding that some were found to be TM contractors.

Further checks found that three suspects had criminal records. Tools used to steal the cables and a lorry were also seized.

The suspects have been remanded until Saturday (July 22).
