Sanusi is innocent until proven guilty, says Kedah PAS

ALOR SETAR: Kedah PAS has vowed to stand firm behind Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, saying that the caretaker Mentri Besar is innocent until proven guilty.

Kedah PAS commissioner Datuk Ahmad Yahaya said the party would remain steadfast in defending Muhammad Sanusi.

“Kedah PAS is holding to the principle that a person brought to court shouldn’t be considered guilty until proven otherwise.

“The legislative process should be carried out with firm adherence to the principle of justice and free from political influence,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad, who is Pokok Sena MP, urged party members and supporters to remain calm and not be influenced by emotions.

Kedah Perikatan Nasional information chief Khairul Anuar Ramli said Pakatan Harapan, in its 15th General Election manifesto, had promised to abolish Sedition Act 1948 which it claimed was cruel and draconian.

He hopes the royal institution will not be dragged into the country’s political mess.

Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar said Muhammad Sanusi should not tell PAS supporters and members that these were trumped-up charges as claimed by the PAS leadership.

Describing the charges against Muhammad Sanusi as a disgrace to the Kedah Sultan and the people, Mahfuz said this was a result of his own excessive politics.

“The charges against Muhammad Sanusi had tarnished the state’s reputation and marked a sad day for the Kedah people in its history.

“What he has done is something that should not be done by a leader who comes from a party that embraces and fights in the name of the Malays and Islam.

“I hope he had learned his lesson and not to go beyond the limit in matters related to race, religion and royalty,” he said.
