July 7 hearing date for Rosmah's bid to postpone solar hybrid appeal

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is seeking to postpone the appeal proceedings in her solar hybrid case, will have her application heard this Friday (July 7).

Her lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader said the application was to vacate the appeal hearing that has already been fixed for July 11.

"The application will be done in open court at the Court of Appeal," he said when contacted on Tuesday (July 4).

According to Akberdin, the Court of Appeal was informed of the application to adjourn the matter through a letter last month.

He said the postponement is to give way to Rosmah's other appeal at the Federal Court in her bid to disqualify the fiat (authorisation letter) obtained by the late Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram.

On June 22, the Court of Appeal dismissed Rosmah's appeal for leave to initiate judicial review in her challenge against Sri Ram.

Rosmah claimed that Sri Ram's appointment as the lead prosecutor in her case was illegal, null and void.

Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn confirmed to the press that the hearing this Friday would be on the postponement.

He said the parties have filed their submissions on the matter.

Rosmah's appeal in her solar hybrid case, where she was sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined RM970mil, has been scheduled for a four-day hearing beginning July 11.

On Sept 1, the High Court convicted Rosmah on three counts of graft relating to the RM1.25bil solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

She is currently out on bail pending her appeal in the case.
