Johor MB: No point having highest FDI when rakyat issues unsolved

JOHOR BARU: Issues involving the people must be tackled in order for Johor to be a developed state, says Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Onn Hafiz said that he is determined to solve "legacy issues" including those involving the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complexes, roads and hospitals in Johor.

"If we want to be a developed state, we cannot forget about issues that are affecting the people.

"What is the point of us getting the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) or highest exports figure if we are unable to defend the people," he said.

He said this in his speech at a charity dinner organised by the SJK(T) Ladang Rini board of governors on Saturday (June 24) night.

During the event, Onn Hafiz also announced an allocation of RM200,000 for the school to complete the construction of its hall.

"The state government will approve an allocation of RM200,000 for the hall. I will also talk to the MP of the area, Liew Chin Ting to also contribute RM100,000 to assist the school," he said.

The hall - which is expected to be completed by the end of this year - will be the largest hall in a Tamil school in Johor.

Construction of the building started in 2018 but came to a pause for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic before resuming last year.
