KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian president Joko Widodo received a rockstar welcome during his visit to Pasar Chow Kit on Jalan Raja Alang here on Thursday (June 8).

Many Indonesians gathered from early in the morning just to get a glimpse of their president Jokowi as he is fondly known.

Jokowi is on a two-day visit to Malaysia following an invitation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"Pak Jokowi" cries could be heard from the thousands of people gathered around the Chow Kit and Kampung Baru areas.

Feeling patriotic, the Indonesians present even sang their national anthem for their president.

The crowd went hysterical at the sight of Jokowi and one lucky lady managed to meet him up close after being spotted by the president himself.

Jokowi accompanied Anwar to visit the famous market in the city, where many Indonesians work.

The visit signifies the bilateral relationship between the countries to further strengthen longstanding and close relations between Malaysia and Indonesia as well as address labour and regional issues.
