KUALA PILAH: More than 100 properties have been seized over the past three years after their owners failed to pay their quit rent arrears, says district officer Mohd Faizal Abdul Manap.
He said the seizure by the Land Office involved 122 properties and were carried out from 2021 until now.
“We are serious when it comes to quit rent. The money collected is used for the development of the district and to make Negri Sembilan a competitive state.
“I would like to advise property owners to pay their arrears before Dec 31 or stern action will be taken,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Faizal said several initiatives had been rolled out to make defaulters pay up and a task force was set up to trace 28,057 defaulters.
He said apart from the 122 plots, authorities had also initiated a process to seize 68 others.
“Those whose properties were seized can apply within a specified time to have them returned.”
Separately, he said the Kuala Pilah Land Office collected RM3.76mil in quit rent between January and May. This was almost 12% higher than the amount collected last year.
It also managed to collect RM121,000 in arrears – 14.7% higher than the previous corresponding period.
Mohd Faizal urged the 8,682 owners who had arrears totalling RM467,000 to pay up before Dec 31.
“I urge property owners or their beneficiaries to update their personal details to make it easier to correspond with them.
“This is important because starting from next year, we will not be sending out anymore quit rent bills,” he added.
