KUALA LUMPUR: Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has called on private energy companies and relevant industry players to do their part in Malaysia's transition to a more sustainable and green future.
The Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister stressed that the innovation of companies was crucial in setting standards that others in the industry could then follow.
"The government's main responsibility is steering the transition towards carbon neutrality while the inventiveness of companies is crucial in disrupting the current status quo.
"Companies that successfully transition will offer others a blueprint of how they can lean into newer and more sustainable solutions while remaining profitable.
"This will then make a circular economy, where we prioritise the reuse of existing products and resources, possible," he said in a press conference after Malakoff Corp Bhd's rebranding launch event here on Wednesday (May 31).
Malakoff's rebranding saw the local energy industry player double down on its commitment to lead Malaysia's energy industry transition towards more sustainable and greener energy solutions.
In this regard, Malakoff announced that three new brand entities would also be introduced as part of its rebranding efforts.
These are Malakoff Green Solutions for renewable energy through solar, small hydro and carbon-free mobility infrastructure; Malakoff Environmental Solutions for recycling, marine waste, hazardous waste, waste management, water desalination and waste-to-energy projects; and Malakoff Energy for power, gas, and district cooling solutions.
