1980s singer John Huang pursuing Master’s degree at UTM

A POPULAR singer in the 1980s is glad that no one recognised him when he got back to his studies to pursue a Master’s degree, reported China Press.Indonesian singer John Huang revealed that he is doing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Huang, who went to a primary school in Malaysia, wants to realise his dream of completing a Master’s degree.

“No matter our age, we must always maintain our passion in chasing our dreams, and try to achieve them. Even if we do not succeed, we can take it as a learning experience,” he said.

Huang would attend classes in Johor Baru on the weekends and fly to Kuala Lumpur once a month to go to UTM’s Kuala Lumpur campus.

He will be completing his thesis before the deadline in September.

Asked if his classmates knew he used to be a popular singer, Huang said no.

“They do not know. It’s fine as I’m not treated differently. I feel very at ease,” he said.

Huang said he learnt the most in the course by interacting with other students.

“Some of my classmates are entrepreneurs, while others are employees.

“I learnt many things I have not personally encountered before just by listening to what they share in class,” he said.

It was reported that Huang was born in Indonesia and moved to Malaysia when he was eight.

He moved again during his secondary school years to the United States and completed his bachelor’s degree in Canada.

He worked in Japan for two years before debuting as a singer in Taiwan in 1984.

> A man who uploaded videos of himself torturing a cat has sparked a wave of protests with activists calling for the enactment of animal welfare laws in China, reported Sin Chew Daily. In April this year, an online influencer known as Spicy Strip Jack had filmed himself pulling the nails off a black and white cat.

He was also seen burning and stepping on the animal, which later died.

He was arrested by Anhui police after news of him selling videos of his torture was discovered and widely shared online.

After being released, he apologised for his actions, saying that he “will cherish the lives of animals as if they were my own”.

However, just days after his release, Spicy Strip Jack was once again caught live streaming himself torturing cats.
